Distillery at Craggan

TGP have recently completed the landscape masterplan design for the proposed Distillery at Craggan in the Cairngorms National Park, in association with Gordon and MacPhail. The planning application has now been submitted following a successful consultation event earlier in the year when more than 150 people came to view the plans and make comments on the proposed distillery. The application now includes visuals showing what the planting around the distillery will look like once the vegetation has matured over ten years, in response to requests made at the exhibition.

The design focused on delivery of a natural aesthetic, incorporating native woodland and parkland-style tree planting with native wildflower meadow and marginal wetland areas to enhance existing habitats and exert a positive, lasting impact on the character of the surrounding Spey valley. A new network of footpaths within the site provides walking opportunities for visitors to experience the river, and a link to the nearby settlement of Grantown-on-Spey.

The plans for the site incorporate the distillery and warehousing, as well as tasting rooms, a visitor centre with retail space and a coffee shop. The distillery has been designed to embrace the views across the River Spey to the Cairngorms. Sedum roofs will help the buildings blend into the surrounding environment when viewed from higher ground, while the circular nature of the building will disguise much of the day to day working area within the service yard.
