Herring Walk
The Herring Walk forms a coastal promenade and heritage trail at Castlebay (Isle of Barra) with stunning views across the bay.
Barra and Vatersay Community Ltd is a community-owned company seeking to renovate the path to establish safer routes for cyclists and pedestrians, improving the condition of the path, fragmented footways and challenging gradients that significantly constrain safe access and mobility. The new design will take in the historical heritage details along the walkway, including the old piers, with additional seating, heritage interpretation and public realm.
A new coastal footbridge will provide a direct active travel link across this section of the bay, linking the Horgh, the school, public facilities & Main Street, shops and wider routes within Castlebay, Vatersay and Ledaig.
